Some Unseen Lights: New LA Film + Video in Amsterdam June 23

I’ve curated recent Los Angeles film and video works for Stichting Raspoetin in Amsterdam June 23, and will be there to introduce the program.

Some Unseen Lights: New LA Film + Video
This two-part program brings together a sampling of new film and video from Los Angeles artists working in and around the expanded edges of moving image forms. Topics and approaches include the psychedelic potential of plant-life representations; contemporary explorations of the dual nature of film material as physical object and medium; a grappling with the recent occupation of Los Angeles City Hall that finds commitment to politics and aesthetics coexisting on the raw fringes of documentary practice; new video work from a longtime master of layered optical imagery; a miniature evocation of Southern California as space-age landscape; parallels between the control of workers and images; the geopolitical implications of planetary theory; fire and song; poppies; and a video about fruit.

In the second part of the program, degradation and deterioration of image and sound develops into an increasingly abstracted treatment of memory and fragmented narrative.

Featuring works by Sean Batton and Kelsey Brain, Daniel Brantley and Cameron Stallones, Akina Cox, Helga Fassonaki, Corey Fogel, Andrew Kim, Pat O’Neill, Mike Stolz, Mark Toscano, John Warren, and Travis Wilkerson.
